FSP Mourns the Passing of Congressman David Scott
Washington, D.C.–The Financial Services Professionals (FSP) organization released the following statement on the passing of Georgia Congressman David Scott:
“FSP joins the nation, Congressional community, former staff, and family of Congressman David Scott in mourning his passing. Congressman David Scott was the first Black Chair of the House Agriculture Committee and a senior Member of the Financial Services Committee, who held sway over trillions of dollars in agriculture, finance, and consumer matters. As Chairman of the Agriculture Committee, Congressman Scott, while holding jurisdiction over major agriculture, finance, and related commerce, continued to put the people in his Congressional District first. He recognized the vital role that agriculture played in the history of Black Americans in the United States, and was keenly aware of the connection between the hands that toiled in the fields of his native South Carolina and Georgia and the development of agriculture, industry, and commerce that helped America become the powerful nation it has become. In addition to his other accomplishments, he was also a champion of land grant universities, such as the University of Georgia and Fort Valley State University, and recognized the significance they play in fostering research and education, and improving the agricultural economy.”
Congressman Scott endeavored to give back through his memberships, participation, and leadership in several renowned Black organizations, including Alpha Phi Alpha, his Masonic lodge, and 100 Black Men of America.
FSP joins our nation in celebrating the life of David Scott and looks forward to carrying on the legacy he created in the broad and complex world of banking, finance, and agriculture.
