Financial Services Professionals (FSP) congratulates the new Biden-Harris Administration on this historic occasion! We celebrate the historical importance of Vice President Kamala Harris as the first woman and person of Black and South Asian descent to serve as Vice President. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, fiercely contested election results, and an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol to disrupt the democratic voting process, we experienced a peaceful transition of power.
President Biden and Vice President Harris ushered in a new Administration with grace and dignity, while facing the daunting challenges of eradicating the virus, resuscitating our economy, and addressing the social and economic impacts on the most vulnerable. Not only has the pandemic wreaked havoc and devastation on our economy, it has exacerbated rampant inequality and disparities that have pushed Blacks and other minorities to the brink as they are faced with mounting bills, onerous debt, and a sharp drop in income. Stimulus packages helped mitigate some of the damage, but with the racial wealth gap expanding further, it is imperative to ensure that Black Americans do not fall farther behind.
Lastly, the domestic terror attacks on our nation’s Capitol demonstrated how fragile our democracy can be when radical groups are galvanized. It also demonstrated that racism is not only a part of our history, but that it continues to plague our society. We strongly condemn these hateful attacks! FSP looks forward to working with the Administration, policymakers, and the private sector to advance the goals of justice, racial equality, diversity and inclusion through our network of Blacks in the financial services industry.
